Introduction: My name is Officer Duane Finks. I have been employed with the Little Rock Department for the past seven years. Two years as a police cadet and five years as a patrolman patrolling the southwest Little Rock Area. I am also a certified field training officer or FTO, which is someone who assists new police officers to adapt and learn how to function on the streets. I am currently assigned to Henderson Jr. High School as your School Resource Officer. Body: I. Definition of Consequences A. That which follows as the result of some preceding act. 1. Consequences are something that we must live with daily due to good or bad choices we make in life. We are responsible for our actions, because our actions lead to consequences. If you pick up a rock and throw it through a neighbors car windshield, or being arrested and charged with criminal mischief. II. Understand the consequences of having good study habits vs. not studying. A. Good study habits 1. Making good grades 2. Being able to participate in extra curricular activities a. football b. basketball c. volleyball d. cheerleading, etc. 3. Being able to enjoy your summer vacation, because you are not forced to go to summer school 4. Making the honor roll and maintaining a high GPA 5. Looked at as a good student with a bright future B. Not studying 1. Making bad grades 2. Not being able to participate in extra curricular activities 3. Tempted to cheat on test a. Suspension from school b. Loss of trust 4. Having to go to summer school 5. Having to repeat the same grade 6. Dropping out of school 7. Not being able to obtain your driver's license III. Understand the consequences of using drugs and alcohol A. Causes bad judgment - it makes bad decisions look like good ones B. Slows the signal from your brain to your body limbs for good mobility C.
